CURBIE'S RIDE FOR MARCH 2006
Our monthly meeting started at 9:00 am. And we had to use the employee’s lunch room in the back
of the store, because the parking lot in the front of the store was all tore up for the expansion of the store.
There was a little confusion when we all tried to go in for our meeting but we got it straightened out.
When the meeting was over we lined up for our ride in two groups. David McDaniel was the first leader
with about 13 bikes. I was the leader of the second group of about 17 bikes and 1 side car. We left
Chaparral at about 10:00am. And headed south on Hwy 215 to Hwy 60 then we headed west on Hwy
60 till we got to Hwy 71 went south on Hwy 71 a little ways till we reached Chino Hills Parkway where
we had our first stop for about 10 min. While we were all stopped at our break we heard about Leroy
running over a large alligator in the road and I guess it almost hit Rodney W.After our break we went left
on Carbon Canyon Rd. through some twisty and windy turns, then we left on Imperial Hwy for a about 7
miles to Santiago Canyon Rd.. We stayed on Santiago Canyon Rd. went pass O’Neil Park then
turned left at Cooks corner on Live Oak Canyon rd. It turns into Trabuco Canyon Rd.We made our
second stop at the corner of Antonio Parkway and Oso Parkway for about 10 min. A few bikes had
dropped off and went home by this time.Back on Antonio Parkway to Ortega Hwy. Over Ortega Hwy.
Down to Grand Ave. where we turned right and went around Lake Elsinore and ended up at “My
Buddies Pizza Parlor. At this point the ride was officially over! We arrived at the pizza parlor at
about 2:00pm.I would like to thank Pete and Linda for helping me map out this ride and also Pete for
being my tail gunner on the ride. I'd also like to thank David McDaniel for leading the first group of riders.
I hope everyone that went on my ride enjoyed the ride as much as I did. I look forward to riding with
you all again soon.
Your road captain for March Curbie [Eddie Hopper]
Club members need to develop eye sight, let your brain focus on the surrounding around you. Sometimes
when you are riding with a group you get tunnel vision. You can also loose the sounds because of all the
noise (wind, engine, exhaust, road noise, etc). Concentrate on the road sights. You need to evaluate the
situation around you, look for cars merging on the freeway. Can you give them room or should you move
to the other lane? If you have to slow down make sure that the bikes behind you are able to slow also.
Give them a hand signals to the bikers behind you so they will know what you are doing..
When you come up to an intersection, signals, stop sign, or cars coming from drive ways, don’t wait
until you get there. Use your eyes, turn your head, and look ahead of the area. Look for an out if you
have to.
Poker Run
The 6th annual Poker Run will be October's club ride. Each year we increase member attending, last
year we had 35 members. This year Kay has set up about a 200 mile run, in a figure eight. We need 10
voluntees for the Poker Run. If you would like to help please contact Linda.
