Chaparral Riders Club Meeting

March 7, 2010

Meeting Minutes

The meeting promptly began at 8:02 a.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Ron asked if we had any new members or guests.  There were none.

Ron then informed us of an unfortunate accident that one of our members, Bernard Remson, was in on Wednesday, March 3, 2010.  He stated that Bernard had surgery on Friday at Loma Linda Hospital and that he’s doing well.  At this point, Ron asked Wiley, Bernard’s brother, to come up and explain to us what happened.  Wiley stated that an 82 year old man drove out in front of Bernard.  Bernard didn’t have a chance to avoid it.  He was operated on Friday.  They had to repair his pallet, broken nose, throat and right ankle.  He has been transferred to Kaiser in Fontana.  He’s in room 4026.  Per Ron and Wiley, Bernard is doing well because he’s cracking jokes as usual and has even requested a ride to Yuma for the Yuma Prison Run .  States, he’s willing to ride “Bitch” to get to Yuma!  Let’s all keep Bernard in our prayers for a speedy  recovery.

It seems that Easter falls on Sunday, April 4th this year, the same day our  regular scheduled meeting/ride is set for.  Our president asked for everyone to vote to have our meeting/ride rescheduled to Saturday, April 3rd or the following Sunday, April 11.   It was voted for Saturday, April 3, 2010.

Mileage Award Certificates were passed out today to nine members.  They were:

The winner of the Loma Linda drawing was:  Wiley Remson.  Congratulations!

Ron stated that the club needs someone to volunteer for the Loma Linda Fund.  Sheridan Solis volunteered for the position.  Thank you, Sheridan!

Stinky

We had three candidates for Stinky this month.  Bill Randall and Shirley Frantum, who arrived late to our meeting, and Janet Park, who ran out of gas on our trip back from Phoenix a couple weeks ago.  Bill and Shirley, you’re both off the hook.  Janet gets to keep Stinky for another month (Janet wasn’t there to defend herself and I am sure she would blame it on Dave).  Yes, KEEP, because she already had possession of him for dropping her bike last month!

Todays Ride

Because of the weather, today’s ride has been rescheduled to Sunday, March 14, 2010.  We’re meeting in the back of Chaparral at 8:30 and KSU promptly at 9:00 a.m.  Also, per Stephan Herrick, if there’s anyone that would like the group to meet them at the Shell gas station in Temecula, please let Stephan know so he can plan accordingly.  Also, DON’T FORGET TO CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS AHEAD ONE HOUR ON SATURDAY NIGHT!!!!

Stinky

It’s been a long time since I got to ride with a chick J.  Janet’s good friend and life companion ratted her out for sort of dropping her bike while making a U-Turn.  No one was hurt except maybe her pride.  But from what I understand she had some big strong good looking dude help her pick it up.  Well, I will say that I am a lot better looking than that dude.  Question is, can I pick up the bike?  Let’s not find out!!!!!!!!!!!  See ya’ll next month!!!!

 Captain Report    Feb, 2009

The weather was pretty chilly but sunny.  Was wondering if we were even going to ride with the 2 days prior storms but there were about 12 riders who decided they wanted to enjoy the weather while we had it.  It was a short ride planned because of the Super Bowl Sunday but it was a good one.  We rode down San Timateo through Hemet and Sage Road.  Always a good ride on that road, bit sandy though.  Then we headed west to Temecula and did a small piece of Deluz and went north on Carancho road which eventually turns into Clinton Keith.  Then took Grand Ave to Temescal Canyon road and wound up at Toms Farms.  They have good burgers there and it was relatively central and close so if we ran a little behind folks would be able to split off and catch whatever party they wanted to go to.

Next month’s ride is going to be set up by Stephen Herrick.  We are going to Barrett Junction so be prepared for a good ride.

Excessive Tire Wear
A list of causes

By: James R. Davis
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Excessive tire wear, and/or cupping, is a problem that most motorcyclists experience over time. Too often this is simply the result of
failing to maintain proper tire pressure. However, this is far from a complete answer.

Cupping is a phenomena that is absolutely normal! Excessive cupping or excessive wear on one side of the tire as compared to the
other is not.

There are at least seven causes of cupping and/or uneven wear in the front tire other than tire air pressure:

Most roads are banked away from the center. Thus, if you ride vertical, the side of your tire closest to the center of the road wears
more.

Your tires 'scuff' when you force a speed change with them. The rear tire scuffs when you accelerate and when you brake (and every
time you ride in a direction other than straight ahead.) Thus, it tends to have even 'cupping' as compared to the front tire (which
scuffs when you brake but not when you accelerate.)

While alignment is not usually a problem with motorcycles - it can be.

Carrying an unevenly divided load (all your tools, jumper cable, etc.) in one saddlebag can result in your riding the bike other than
vertical most of the time.

Setting your TRAC (anti-dive) unequally can easily cause uneven tire wear.

If one of your front shocks is defective you will experience uneven tire wear.

Excessive use of the front brake will result in excessive cupping.
