Chaparral Riders Club Meeting
February 7, 2010
Meeting Minutes
Began the meeting at 8:03 a.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Ron asked if we had any new members or guests. There were none.
Ride Planning Meeting
Ron mentioned that the Ride Planning Meeting was held and that the rides have been generally selected, but not detailed. The rides are posted on Chaparralriders.com under Ride Schedule. Also, he’s asking for someone from each ride to pick a dinner location for the following Wednesday night social as well as the End of Ride location. He also stated that we do plan on having at least two overnight runs this year. We appear to agree with Death Valley sometime in April/May. Another possibility is Ojai, San Luis Obispo, and Stateline.
Membership
Membership application forms are still being filled out. We presently have 53 members. Chaparral has a new computer system that can only recognize you by your membership number - they can no longer call the office by phone to verify your membership by name. Therefore, it’s imperative that everyone has their membership card with them at the time of each purchase. The new cards will now expire at the end of January 2011. Remember: No Card, No Purchase!
Web Site
Web site is up and running at Chaparralriders.net. Ron has found a host (1 and 1) that will cost $6.95 per month with the first six months free. Domain name will be transferred shortly. Still working minor bugs and details. Expect to be done by next month meeting.
The Yahoo Group calendar is sending out reminder messages. If you wish to receive these you must join Yahoo Groups. The link is on the web site.
Ron encouraged everyone to post their pics on the site and provided the information on how to log in. It’s simple. If you need password information contact cobrastklc@gmail.com.

High Mileage Rewards were given to nine members. Three 5K awards for $10 each went to Jess Siglow, Jim Ireson, and Randy Saun. Four 10K awards for $20 each went to Rick Alvarez, David McKennau, Stephan Herrick, and John Wilson. One 15K award for $30 went to Bonnie Judge and the top mileage award for $50 went to our President, Ron Judge with 18,750 miles. Congratulations to all!
Please, it is important that everyone jots down their bike mileage on their application form, OR, if you’ve already turned in your application form, please write your mileage down on the membership sign-in sheet at next month’s meeting.

We had four candidates for Stinky. Janet Parks for dropping her bike; Stephan Herrick posting the wrong ride after eating too much pizza at planning meeting; Cathie Siglow for being late to Chaparral Riders meeting, our President, Ron Judge for forgetting to sign the Mileage Certificates. After our vote, the winner of Stinky was? Janet Parks for dropping her bike! Congratulations!
Todays Ride
This months ride was to Tom’s Farm – and, it was a great ride if I do say so myself!
Stinky
It’s been
a long time since I got to ride with a chick J.
Janet’s good friend and life companion ratted her out for sort of dropping her
bike while making a U-Turn. No one was hurt except maybe her pride.
But from what I understand she had some big strong good looking dude help her
pick it up. Well, I will say that I am a lot better looking than that
dude. Question is, can I pick up the bike? Let’s not find
out!!!!!!!!!!! See ya’ll next
month!!!!

Captain Report Feb, 2009
The weather was pretty chilly but sunny. Was wondering if we were even going to ride with the 2 days prior storms but there were about 12 riders who decided they wanted to enjoy the weather while we had it. It was a short ride planned because of the Super Bowl Sunday but it was a good one. We rode down San Timateo through Hemet and Sage Road. Always a good ride on that road, bit sandy though. Then we headed west to Temecula and did a small piece of Deluz and went north on Carancho road which eventually turns into Clinton Keith. Then took Grand Ave to Temescal Canyon road and wound up at Toms Farms. They have good burgers there and it was relatively central and close so if we ran a little behind folks would be able to split off and catch whatever party they wanted to go to.
Next month’s ride is going to be set up by Stephen Herrick. We are going to Barrett Junction so be prepared for a good ride.

Excessive
Tire Wear
A list of causes
By: James R. Davis
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Excessive tire wear, and/or cupping, is a problem that most
motorcyclists experience over time. Too often this is simply the result of
failing to maintain proper tire pressure. However, this is far
from a complete answer.
Cupping is a phenomena that is absolutely normal! Excessive
cupping or excessive wear on one side of the tire as compared to the
other is not.
There are at least seven causes of cupping and/or uneven wear
in the front tire other than tire air pressure:
Most roads are banked away from the center. Thus, if you ride
vertical, the side of your tire closest to the center of the road wears
more.
Your tires 'scuff' when you force a speed change with them.
The rear tire scuffs when you accelerate and when you brake (and every
time you ride in a direction other than straight ahead.) Thus,
it tends to have even 'cupping' as compared to the front tire (which
scuffs when you brake but not when you accelerate.)
While alignment is not usually a problem with motorcycles - it
can be.
Carrying an unevenly divided load (all your tools, jumper
cable, etc.) in one saddlebag can result in your riding the bike other than
vertical most of the time.
Setting your TRAC (anti-dive) unequally can easily cause
uneven tire wear.
If one of your front shocks is defective you will experience
uneven tire wear.
Excessive use of the front brake will result in excessive cupping.
